# Outgoing mail

Organisation → **Outgoing mail** sets where draften sends e-mail to the
people of the organisation from: invitations for new members, links to set a
password, notices that an assistant went live or that a mailbox connected a
system of its own.

**Nothing else is sent from here.** Replies to customers stay drafts, and a
person always sends them from their own mail.

## Two options

**SMTP server** — your mail server: the server address, port, encryption
(STARTTLS, TLS or none), user and password.

**Brevo (API)** — an e-mail sending service. The API key is in Brevo →
Settings → SMTP & API → API keys; the sender must be verified in Brevo
(Senders & IP).

For both you fill in the **sender** — the address and name the invitations
come from. The password or API key is stored encrypted and never shown again;
when editing later, leave the field empty to keep it.

## The installation's default sender

When an organisation has no sender of its own, the **installation default** is
used (set by the draften operator). The card says so; set your own with **Set
our own**. The organisation's own sender always takes precedence.

## Checking

**Send a test message** sends a test e-mail to your address. When sending
fails, you see why. The sender also shows when it was last used.

## Without a sender

Without a sender of the organisation or the installation no invitations go
out. A member is added, but not told:

- in an organisation that signs in with Microsoft or Google, they sign in
  with the organisation's account — you just have to tell them yourself;
- in an organisation that signs in with passwords, they have no way to set
  one — nobody new can sign in.
